Metaphysic are thrilled to share our recent audition on Season 17 of America’s Got Talent, where co-founders Tom Graham and Chris Ume took to the stage to showcase Metaphysic’s groundbreaking technology. Metaphysic is pioneering the future of hyperreal AI-generated content and, through mainstream entertainment, we are keen to show the world what can be achieved when entertainment and technology combine. What better way to do so than on the stage of one of the decade's most beloved shows watched by an average of 10 million people.

In this post, Chris Ume and Tom Graham give us a behind-the-scenes look into the audition process for AGT, the incredible reaction of the live audience and the famous judges, as well as the future plans in store for Metaphysic, as it pathes the future for technology and entertainment.

Tell us about your audition experience

As technical experts who are usually behind the scenes, introducing Metaphysic on stage in front of thousands was certainly a remarkable experience. Metaphysic are honoured to have partnered with Daniel Emmet, a former contestant on AGT in 2018. In our act, Daniel performed an incredible rendition of “You're The Inspiration” to the audience, with an AI twist. Using hyperreal synthetic media, we projected Simon Cowell’s face onto Daniel’s, allowing the audience to watch in awe as we brought Simon’s singing voice to life. Though this was the first time we had performed to a live audience, the combination of Daniel’s stellar stage presence and the expertise of our visual effects team, meant that we were confident everything would go to plan.

How did Simon Cowell react to the performance?

The aim of our performance was always to harness the power of AI and synthetic media to create entertaining and meaningful content to delight the audience. As we are so used to producing content online, it was incredible to see such a positive reaction from a live audience. Simon obviously loved it, and stressed the surreal nature of the act in the sense of watching himself perform something he did not, or potentially could not, do.

“Talent can be anything” - Howie

The other judges also gave us incredibly useful feedback. Howie Mandell stressed that ‘talent is technology’, and we think that’s an interesting point around the expansion of traditional talent acts. We were able to deliver such a unique performance because of the incredible capabilities of the technology, and we believe that's what made our act so engaging.

Pathing the future for technology and entertainment

The media landscape is shifting rapidly, with the utilisation of artificial intelligence for content creation rising exponentially. At Metaphysic, we have our own proprietary technology, where a variety of machine learning, algorithms and software is deployed to create synthetic media. We have an incredibly talented team of engineers, and as a venture backed company, our purpose is to create software, tools and machine learning algorithms to allow anyone to create hyper realistic synthetic media at internet scale. Soon users will also be able to put together rich, customised hyperreal content, with enhanced special effects — just like our America's Got Talent performance.

We strongly believe that our technology is a positive force within the media landscape. When content suddenly becomes hyperreal, it is a lot more engaging. Furthermore, we see a future where AI can break language barriers and bring communities together.

What’s next for Metaphysic?

It’s not yet known where Metaphysic’s journey with America's Got Talent is headed. While we got four ‘yes’ votes from the judges, we still have to wait for the judges’ deliberations to see if we get through to the live rounds, But we would certainly be very excited by the opportunity to show off more of our work. Maybe even a performance from an iconic duo is in the works. You’ll have to wait and see! We can’t wait to raise more awareness of our platform, and show the world how they too will be able to create incredible content that will help develop the metaverse and ultimately bring communities together through technology.
